On a February afternoon I was walking on the valley floor when this dead tree caught my attention, then I saw Yosemite Falls in the distance and the misty fog bank just above the tree line. I quickly set up my camera in anticipation of an evocative color image.

The color print was a disappointment. It did not convey the emotions experienced when the picture was recorded. A few weeks later as an experiment, I removed the colors, which to my pleasant surprise transformed the print into an expressive and evocative moment in time.
